[UPDATE: THE FULL TRAILER HAS BEEN RELEASED HERE]
The Master is probably one of the most anticipated films this year. Its planned release date, in October 2012, slots it comfortably into awards season. This is director, Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest film since the award winning There Will be Blood back in 2007. PTA has brought back Johnny Greenwood to score the film – Greenwood probably created the best score of 2007, but was disqualified from being nominated for an Oscar due to the re-use of a previous sample in a stage production, a few years before. So with Greenwood given a second opportunity to work with PTA, I hope he has a shot this time.
Set in America in the years following World War II, a charismatic intellectual (Hoffman) launches a faith-based organization and taps a young drifter (Phoenix) as his right-hand man. But as the faith begins to gain a fervent following, the onetime vagabond finds himself questioning the belief system he has embraced, and his mentor. – [Collider]
There is a little bit of controversy surrounding the film in that the “faith-based organization”, called The Cause, draws heavily on the story of how Scientology become the religion it is today – expect a lot of picketing from around the time of release. But producers have been saying this is not the case….wink wink. I eat whole planets!
Thought I’d add this in for shits ‘n giggles…
